Eddie Vedder – Blue Red and Grey

Tis al weer een tijdje geleden dat ik een nummer voorbij hoorde komen waarvan ik iets had van “daar moet ik even wat mee doen”, maar zojuist was er weer een. Eddie Vedder doet een prachtige cover van Blue Red and Grey van The Who

Mooi, met zo’n stukje tekst als:

Some people seem so obsessed with the morning
Get up early just to watch the sun rise
Some people like it more when there’s fire in the sky
Worship the sun when it’s high
Some people go for those sultry evenings
Sipping cocktails in the blue, red and grey
But I like every minute of the day

So true to me.. I like every minute of the day!

Society – Eddie Vedder

intothewild Soms, heel soms komt er weer zo’n nummer voorbij die mij dan op meerdere niveau’s raakt. Momenteel ben ik helemaal in de ban van de Soundtrack van de film Into the Wild gezongen en gespeeld door Eddie Vedder van Pearl Jam. Het nummer Society springt er voor mij het meest uit samen met Rise, Hard Sun en Guaranteed. Met name Society komt binnen. Het nummer is oorspronkelijk geschreven door Jerry Hannan. Eddie Vedder weet echt het maximale uit Society te halen met zijn warme diepe baritone stem. Society is als tekst een kritische kanttekening op de huidige maatschappij in haar hebzucht. Ik kan mij daar goed in vinden. Jerry Hannan heeft absoluut een aantal juweeltjes verstopt in deze tekst:

There’s those thinkin’ more or less, less is more,
but if less is more, how you keepin’ score?
It means for every point you make, your level drops.
Kinda like you’re startin’ from the top…
and you can’t do that.

Ik bedoel met een tekst als “There’s those thinkin’ more or less, less is more. But if less is more, how you keepin’ score? It means for every point you make, your level drops. Kinda like you’re startin’ from the top…and you can’t do that.” .. geniaal!
